Screendesk vs Jam.dev for customer support

Jam.dev is a strong bug reporter for software teams. Screendesk is built for the support desk. Choose by who reports most of your bugs, the helpdesk you use, and the evidence engineering needs.

A comparison by Screendesk. Jam.dev pricing and documentation reviewed on . Features and plans can change.

Start with who reports the bug

Evaluate Screendesk when…

Most problems start as customer tickets. You work in Zendesk, Freshdesk, Help Scout or Intercom, want recording requests to come back to the ticket, and also need outgoing video replies, a reusable library or live video calls.

A useful pilot follows one issue from the recording request through review, engineering handoff and the explanation sent back to the customer.

Jam.dev may fit well when…

Most bug reports come from your own team. QA, product and engineering can install an extension and get console logs, network requests and device details with every capture, including on the Free plan.

Jam.dev is also competitive in Intercom, with a native app and a Fin AI workflow. If that already works for your team, switching needs a concrete benefit.

Compare capabilities, including their conditions

This is a workflow comparison, not a scorecard. Where Jam.dev’s documentation does not cover something, ask Jam or test it rather than assume it is missing.

Test it in your helpdesk

Zendesk: compare the clicks per request

With Jam.dev, the Zendesk workflow is a link the agent creates in the browser extension and pastes into the reply, with the ticket URL as the link name. With Screendesk, the agent requests a recording from the ticket, a macro or a trigger, and the recording returns to the ticket. Time both paths for ten real tickets and check where agents find the evidence afterwards.

Start with the Zendesk screen recording workflow and the Zendesk macro setup guide.

Intercom: test the Messenger and Fin paths

Both products have an Intercom app. Test a request from an open conversation, a request inside an automated workflow, and what the next teammate sees. Check the customer’s browser permissions and the returned video, not just the request.

The Intercom integration page covers Screendesk’s flow.

Network detail: decide what engineering needs

If engineering mainly needs failed requests, a HAR file can cover it on any plan, and the free HAR file viewer helps support read and sanitize it before escalating. If you need logs attached to every customer recording, confirm the setup and plan each tool requires on your own site.

Watch a Screendesk request, recording and return

In this 90-second edit, Screendesk’s Ophely Nhem demonstrates a recording request on a Screendesk Zendesk test ticket, opens the customer recorder, submits a sample, and reviews the returned internal note. The sample records a public website; it does not demonstrate a real customer bug.

Team demonstration recorded 26 March 2026; edited to 90 seconds with waiting periods removed and browser address bars cropped. Silent video with a descriptive text track. Interfaces can change. This request has no console/network capture configured.

Compare the plan your workflow needs

Compare Screendesk pricing with Jam.dev’s current pricing for your real team. Screendesk’s paid plans are per agent; Jam.dev’s Team plan is per creator, with a monthly Recording Link allowance.

  • Count the agents (Screendesk) or creators (Jam.dev) who need to send requests.
  • Estimate monthly customer recording requests. Jam.dev’s Team plan includes 150 Recording Links a month; Screendesk’s paid plans have unlimited recordings.
  • If engineering needs console and network evidence from customers, confirm the capture setup and eligible tier for each tool.
  • Check live calls, outgoing videos, transcripts, AI and integrations separately.
  • Compare the same billing period and currency.

Run a fair two-week pilot

  1. Pick ten real ticket types where you currently ask for screenshots, videos or HAR files.
  2. Send the same requests with each tool from your actual helpdesk, using test customers or consenting colleagues.
  3. Measure what matters to support: how many customers complete the recording, agent time per request, and whether the evidence lands in the ticket without copying.
  4. Escalate two cases to engineering and ask whether the evidence was enough to start without a follow-up question.
  5. Keep historical recordings accessible. Do not assume old links or recordings transfer automatically.

Questions before you choose

Is Screendesk an alternative to Jam.dev?

For customer-facing support, yes. Both let customers record a problem without installing anything. Screendesk is built around helpdesk workflows, outgoing videos and live calls. Jam.dev is built around internal bug capture and engineering handoff.

Do customers need to install anything?

No. Screendesk recording requests and Jam.dev Recording Links both open in a supported desktop browser without an account or extension.

Which one captures console and network logs?

Jam.dev’s extension captures them on every plan. For customer Recording Links, Jam.dev needs your domain connected and its scripts installed. Screendesk captures console and network logs on the Enterprise plan with the supported capture setup.

Can we use both?

Yes. Many teams keep an internal bug reporter for QA and engineering and a helpdesk recording tool for customers. Agree on which tool owns customer evidence so recordings are easy to find from the ticket.

Can we migrate existing Jams into Screendesk?

Do not assume an automatic import or that old links will move. Keep access to the recordings your tickets link to, check Jam.dev’s export and retention options, and start new requests in Screendesk from the switch date.

Does this compare other products called Jam?

No. This page compares the bug-reporting product at jam.dev. It does not cover JAM Software, the JAMS scheduler or other products named Jam.
